Blower Regenerator: Diesel Particulate filters are now a legal requirement in the EU. The technology is nearly a standard fitment to all new road vehicles, where filters are readily cleaned with high temperature exhaust gases when travelling at high speeds/power. For off-road vehicles or industrial engines the same regulations will come into effect from 2014. However, for reasons of durability, these engines are usually designed with low specific power outputs and they rarely operate at high speed. Regeneration solutions for their particulate filters are therefore necessarily more complicated and include separate burners or heaters in the filter chamber to effect the cleaning process. DBS, together with one other partner, is currently developing this technology, where TurboClaw® is a key enabler to the preferred solution. High-pressure Stages For Multi-Stage Industrial Compressors: DBS has identified an industrial process application and is presently developing initial designs to evaluate suitability for commercialisation. The company has previously developed multi-stage low specific speed products (see the technology) at lower power. Gas Turbine & Microturbine Fuel Compressor Application Supplying fuel-gas to gas turbine power generation plants requires specialist systems that are used to boost the pressure of fuel gas from low-pressure distribution systems up to the higher pressures required by the turbine. These compressors are driven by electric motors that require sophisticated control systems to regulate and ensure sufficient flow of fuel while the turbine is undergoing load fluctuations. For small gas turbine engines, the low levels of volume flow rates require low specific speed compressors.
